FAQ’s - WORKING WITH CHLOE

WHAT’S THE PROCESS, FROM START TO FINISH?

1. Fill out this no-obligation PROJECT FORM.

2. Since you filled out that form so completely :), Chloe replies promptly with your quote, after crunching the numbers using this guide. (She’s essentially calculating the total exposure her performance(s) will have in the world.)

3. Once you agree to the quote, you elect to either 1) direct Chloe in a remote live session (usually 1 hour over Zoom or similar); OR 2) waive the opportunity to direct and allow Chloe to work on her own according to a deadline. If you elect to direct, Chloe will send you an easy scheduling link.

4. You meet Chloe on Zoom, and get enough takes to feel satisfied, OR if you’ve waived the live session, she records on her own and gives you multiple takes according to her own judgment. Either way, Chloe cleans up the recording(s) so they sound pretty (note she does not edit spots together according to chosen takes), and sends ASAP via WeTransfer or your preferred method, usually within a few hours. The project is considered "fulfilled". Chloe also sends your invoice.

5. If you find that you need small modifications/additions to the recording, for any reason, you may request a paid round of Revision. These are generally billed at a standard $100 each (but might be more, depending. See below for more info on this).

WHAT IF I NEED PICKUPS/REVISIONS/TWEAKS?

Chloe works on a pay-per-engagement basis. When your file(s) is/are delivered from the session (whether Chloe records on her own or directed by you), your project is considered fulfilled. After that original file delivery, a revision fee of $100 per round applies to any additional work by Chloe. This includes any modification you’re asking Chloe to make to the recording, including tweaks to tone, script change, or other modification.

Tip: Opt for a live session in the first place! There's no extra charge to do this, and it can really help you get your dream performance. If you elect to have Chloe work on her own, she’ll do her best to give you multiple takes and cover all possible options if she’s in doubt about something, but ah, the efficiency of a directed session… did you know there are multiple ways to pronounce “agile”, “data”, “economic”, “250”, and “10:30pm EST”??

AGAIN: Even one-word revisions (some call these "pickups") are still revisions. Chloe assures that your revision is contextualized and matched for tone, pacing and volume, and room acoustics. Please understand that revising is a multi-step, often time-consuming process.

If any round of revision includes more than 50% of the script (or module/chapter), Chloe will need to negotiate a special fee. And any revision/pickup must occur before airing/use.

Revision to a script that has already run (e.g., you need updated wording for a campaign update) is considered an "update" and usually costs almost the same as a new spot, since new usage is planned.

Want to be a star client and greatly help the revision process along? Please provide something that puts the revisions in context, e.g., the working edit of the voice-only file (no music) and a revised copy of the whole script with changes clearly noted/highlighted.

HOW DO YOU DETERMINE My Quote?

  • Chloe does not have a flat fee per word or minute. Chloe consults the industry-standard GVAA Rate Guide. It’s a complex document, as there are a lot of ways to use a voice actor’s performance, and as you can imagine, the more places you use a spot, and the more exposure you give to it, the more you pay. The guide takes into account all these things. Never fear - Chloe makes it easy for you to get her the needed info. Just fill out this Project Form completely!

  • Minimum quote is generally $400, which includes your opportunity to direct remotely, Chloe’s time to record, and the clean file delivery you will receive hours after Chloe records.

  • COOL THING! Chloe can usually provide a nice batch discount for multiple spots recorded in one sitting.

  • Your quote will be (sometimes significantly) higher if you’ll be placing Chloe’s performance(s) in a paid context on social media, streaming, or traditional broadcast. See this rough estimation calculator, if you want to play around with different usage scenarios before obtaining an official quote.

  • Tweaks are billable! See Revision Policy above.

WILL MY RECORDING SOUND WONDERFUL?

Yes. Chloe’s pro equipment:

  • 2023 MacBook

  • UAD Apollo Twin Quad Interface

  • Mics: Neumann TLM-103 / Sennheiser MKH 416

  • State-of-the-art StudioBricks ONE Plus vocal booth

…and Chloe’s a great editor, so flubs, etc. will be edited out seamlessly when she sends your takes. Note that you are responsible for editing desired takes into your recording. Chloe will send only the running recording file, editing for pops/flubs/ugly breaths.

Can I use the spot forever AND WHEREVER I LIKE?

No, but kind of.

You can use it forever on your website, in non-public use, or in organic (unboosted, unpaid) social media posts.

However, a voiceover performance is not a simple buy-and-keep transaction if your spot will be used in paid placement (YouTube pre-roll, TV/radio, streaming, jumbo-tron at a basketball game, trade show, etc). Paid placement increases your spot’s exposure, and thus increases your usage rate.

Also, a biggie for actors: granting you a “full buyout” could prevent Chloe from entering certain agreements in the future, due to potential competition issues. So Chloe would have to charge quite a high fee to account for this. She’s willing to give you a quote for just about anything, but it might make more sense for you to buy time as you go. The smallest block of usage is typically 3 months. You can always come back after your license expires, to buy more time, if you need it.

Again, if you’re buying a spot that will have a humbler existence (i.e., will only live on your website or in unboosted social media posts, only used internally for your business or between businesses, etc.), most of the above doesn’t apply.

WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS FOR RECORDING?

Chloe can record one of 5 ways (applies to both initial recording and revisions):

  1. (ENCOURAGED!) LIVE, DIRECTED ZOOM (or other platform) SESSION - Chloe delivers files to you soon after the session

  2. SOLO SESSION - Chloe works on her own and delivers files to you (remember that pickups/revisions after initial file delivery are always $100/round - though she’ll always do her best to provide alternate reads of lines she’s iffy about)

  3. SOURCE CONNECT SESSION - for high-volume studios that want to record on their end

  4. IN-PERSON SESSION - Travel fees may apply - Chloe is often back and forth between Los Angeles and Asheville, NC, so this option might just work out. That said, remote sessions are really easy and effective these days.

Chloe will send you a booking link after you confirm project details and quote, starting with the Project Form.

Will you make an AI/TTs Voice for me?

It’s not entirely out of the question. But let’s think about this…

AI is currently fabricated via Rapid Voice Cloning technology. The way it works is: I voice a ton of nonsense phrases and syllables, and my voice tone and color are mapped onto a base of inflections made by an amalgam of generators. So it won’t be me determining those subtle inflections, going from small to big to an on-the-money smirk… it’ll be an algorithm, trying its best. I am a living, breathing, highly discerning, intelligent emotional creature who wants to read your words and connect with your people. We’re creating here… let’s do this! <3

WHAT IF I’M WORRIED ABOUT VIDEO TIMING ISSUES?

Consider booking a live session (no extra charge). Working "to video" is a clunky process for a voice actor. It’s best to direct Chloe as she reads, and indicate if you'd like pauses in certain places (or you can just indicate where pauses should go on the script if she’s working on her own). Do rest assured that Chloe will voice in such a way that your video editor can easily move around phrases to get just the right timing.

WHAT IF I’m new at directing?

The standard session is one hour. Many sessions take much less. Chloe can guide you if needed. Painless! Chloe will send you an easy scheduling link after you’ve confirmed project details and quote.

I’D LIKE TO TELL YOU ABOUT AN UPCOMING PROJECT.

DO YOU TEACH VOICEOVER?

Not currently, but Chloe loves to teach. Be sure to get on Chloe’s email list if you want to be notified of any events/classes she might conjure up (you’ll see an annoying pop-up window at some point while you’re on the site).

DO YOU HAVE ANOTHER NAME? AND DO YOU WRITE SONGS AND DO SCREEN ACTING TOO?

Totally. Chloe is also Stephanie Morgan, and she does other fun things. www.stephaniemorgan.com

Thanks!

Chloe
